California’s Highway Safety  Improvement Program (HISP) funds infrastructure projects for the purpose of  achieving a significant reduction in fatalities and serious injuries on all  public roads. 
For HSIP Cycle 8, Willdan's Traffic Engineering Group  prepared multiple applications on behalf of the Cities of Inglewood, Hawaiian Gardens,  La Puente, and South Gate in L.A. County, and  provided engineering support  on two applications for the City of Rialto in San Bernardino County. All 10  applications that Willdan prepared or assisted on were selected for funding.
Inglewood  was awarded over $2.6 million for four projects that involved traffic signal  improvements and the construction of a raised center median. Hawaiian Gardens will  receive $860,000 for two traffic signal improvement projects along major  roadways. La Puente was awarded $780,000 to make pedestrian crossing  improvements at 8 locations. South Gate will receive over $1.4 million to  construct raised center medians along Long Beach Blvd. Rialto, for the two  applications that Willdan assisted with, was awarded over $2 million to implement  traffic signal improvements and to construct a raised center median.
