We Understand System, Project, and Infrastructure Design

Willdan's engineers integrate multiple stakeholders' goals with applicable policy and analysis results to create detailed design specifications for infrastructure improvements, existing building upgrades, new construction, and system replacements.

We offer performance contracting to improve your operational efficiency while reducing energy and water use, and design-build services to ensure successful project completion. Willdan’s B3 Benchmarking software provides ongoing energy monitoring to facilitate post-project improvements. Our engineers stay ahead of emerging design trends like Zero Net Energy and smart systems.

We have 60 years of experience designing major infrastructure and public works projects. Our team draws on extensive transportation, traffic, geotechnical, structural, land surveying, and landscape architecture expertise to support your city’s expansion and development.

Highlighted Projects

Whether you need to design a boiler plant, a storm drain system, streets, a hotel retrofit, bridges, a new building, or a microgrid, our engineering team has you covered.  A few examples of our successful design projects are featured below.

Garfield Ave. Concept Plan

City of Paramount, CA

Design for Garfield Avenue Street Widening Project

Willdan leads the civil, traffic, and drainage design of a street widening project for Paramount. The final design will include widening Garfield Avenue to add a third lane in each direction, stormwater and accessibility improvements, new irrigation features, street lights, traffic signal and median modifications, street resurfacing, and new signage. The design currently includes a $20 million project to relocate transmission and electric lines underground, which would make the City’s energy distribution more resilient to extreme weather and manmade disasters.

As part of this pre-construction phase, Willdan has created an initial study checklist, conducted a survey and mapping of the street, and is finalizing specifications and cost estimates for the proposed improvements. We assisted the city in securing $2.6 million in outside funding, allowing us to deliver the design at no cost to the city.

Bates Memorial Hospital Energy Efficiency HVAC

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (METRO)

Orange Line Extension Design-Build

Willdan’s transportation engineering experts led the civil design for a $98 million design-build project to extend the Metro Link Orange Line dedicated busway by an additional four miles north so that it could connect to the Chatsworth Amtrak/Metrolink station. The project included the construction of four new bus stations, two bridge replacements, and traffic improvements such as dedicated paths for pedestrians and bicycles, park-and-ride and parking lot facilities, traffic signal modifications, raised landscaped medians, and an irrigation system.

We successfully delivered this project on-time and under-budget, providing county residents with improved public transportation times and greater access throughout the county. This project won Project of the Year from both the Western Council of Construction Consumers (WCCC) and the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Bates Memorial Hospital Energy Efficiency HVAC

Bates County Memorial Hospital - Butler, MO

Energy Efficiency HVAC

Willdan designed and implemented improvements to address Bates County Memorial Hospital’s aging infrastructure, as well as improve its overall Energy Star® rating. This project enhanced patient and healthcare provider comfort through improved heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) infrastructure and advanced control systems, improved air quality, and created a reliable system mitigating future maintenance needs.
