Willdan Awarded Contracts for Expanded Elk Grove "Smart City" Services

May 5, 2016 | Press Release

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Willdan Group, Inc. ("Willdan") (NASDAQ:WLDN) today announced that it has been awarded two time-and-materials type contracts by the City of Elk Grove.  Under the new contracts, Willdan will provide the city an expanded suite of engineering and public works services designed to foster a greener, safer, more efficient community.  The contracts have a combined ceiling of $73 million over the three base years and two option years.  The first award is for non-federal/state-funded public works services, and has a $14 million annual expenditure ceiling over each of the five years.  The second award is a $3.15 million contract for federal/state-funded project management services.

“We want to thank the Elk Grove City Council and staff for their continued support,” remarked Tom Brisbin, Willdan’s CEO.  “We were selected 5-0 by the City Council for another five years.  The City of Elk Grove has taken a commercial approach to providing public service that is a model for California and the rest of the country.  This outsourcing model seeks to optimize efficiency, enhance customer service, and minimize cost to their residents.  We hope to provide more of Willdan’s services to other progressive cities, assisting them with their aspirations to become “Smart Cities” of the future.”

The City of Elk Grove is located just south of Sacramento, has 161,000 residents, and in 2005 was the fastest growing city in the U.S.  The contracts encompass three major areas—public works city engineering, capital improvement program management, and infrastructure operations.  Over the last five years, Willdan has completed a number of notable projects in Elk Grove including the award-winning Rain Garden, which recycles stormwater in an innovative and educational way, and the conversion to LED street lighting, which saves residents $400,000 per year.
