Congratulations to the City of South Gate for receiving the American Public Works Association, SoCal chapter, B.E.S.T. Award for a Transportation project in a City of 50,000 - 100,000.

Firestone Boulevard is a major regional arterial which has several schools and intersections with heavy traffic volumes.

The capacity enhancement project increased the number of lanes from four to six; improved gateway intersections; installed new medians, drought-resistant landscaping, traffic signal synchronization, and dry wells to capture stormwater runoff. Artistic elements and signature gateway corridor entrance are part of the design.

Willdan provided civil, traffic, pavement, and drainage engineering; landscape architecture, survey and right-of-way engineering; and utility relocation to the City.

This 18-million-dollar project was mostly grant funded and completed in just 18 months.
