On August 19, 2010, the Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Works Association awarded its Project of the Year in the Environment Category (Construction: $2-10 million, Agency size: Small) to the City of Yreka's Stormwater Attenuation and Floodplain Restoration Project.

The Stormwater Attenuation portion of the project was designed by Willdan Engineering in Redding, California. The state-funded project implemented five separate projects from the City's first-ever Storm Drain Master Plan, also prepared by Willdan: two storm drain upgrades and three regional detention facilities, protecting the City from a 100-year storm event while preserving the environmentally sensitive watershed.
