Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT)

Campus Microgrid In Boston

Willdan’s design for the WIT combined 1-5 MW combined heat and power, 1.8 MW solar, and 100-1,000 kWh battery energy storage to achieve $500,000 to $1.5 million annual cost savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,860 metric tons, and increase energy security for emergency responders. The microgrid serves the WIT campus, Madison Park High School, Boston Fire Department, and Mission Main Apartment complex.

Intelligent LED Streetlight Pilot Program with Commonwealth Edison

Willdan converted 300 HPS fixtures at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) campus to the first intelligent and dimmable networked streetlights in the nation. This pilot program for the City of Chicago’s Smart Lighting Program installed 300,000 fixtures and deployed an advanced smart grid network to collect and transfer Internet of Things (IoT) data including traffic, environmental and emissions, as well as crime and public safety monitoring.
