Willdan has provided materials testing and inspection services on hundreds of projects for both public and private sector clients. Listed below are sample projects.
Charnock Well Field Restoration
Contamination of the 10 MGD Charnock Well Field facility as a result of underground leakage from nearby gasoline service stations caused the City of Santa Monica to shut down it down in 1996 and import 85% of its drinking water. In 2008, the $60 million Charnock Well Field Restoration design-build project was launched; it was completed with tight schedule constraints in 2010. The project demolished existing structures and built a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis treatment system with associated pumps and structures. Improvements were also be made to the 14 MGD Arcadia Water Treatment Plant.
Willdan Geotechnical provided a full suite of deputy inspection, materials and soils testing services for reinforced concrete structures, structural steel, structural masonry, epoxy, grading, and pavement at both facilities.

Target, New Brea Store
Willdan provided construction materials testing and inspection for this new store in Brea, California.
Coastline Community College, Newport Learning Center
Willdan provided materials testing, including earthwork and inspection services, for construction of the Newport Learning Center. This is a new 3 story type II-B building with 112,795 ASF, associated site development including a large bio-filtering facility, and parking/driveway areas. Material testing and special inspection services for concrete, CMU, structural steel welding/bolting and concrete batch plant inspection included Special Inspection for poured-in-place caissons and 138 soil anchors/ tiebacks necessitated by the load demand imposed by outward leaning external walls, and fabrication shop inspection, including steel and tagging and sampling for off-site testing. As the Geotechnical Engineer-of-Record, we provided geotechnical observation and testing during grading, foundation excavations and utility trench backfill. The project is aiming for LEED Platinum status, a first in Southern California.
City of Laguna Niguel, City Hall New Construction
Willdan provided materials testing and inspection services for construction of Laguna Niguel City Hall, a new 2 story structural steel frame building with 40,800 SF, 170 parking spaces, a large fountain and solar panels mounted on the roof. Services consisted of material testing and special inspection for erection of structural steel, structural steel welding, high strength bolting, concrete placement, CMU placement, concrete batch plant inspection, structural steel fab shop inspection, reinforcing steel fab shop tagging and sampling for testing. Tested concrete, masonry mortar and grout for compressive strength and concrete flatness testing on concrete slabs and decks to ensure concrete met the tolerance per the specs. This project is aiming for LEED status.
